Crime and Incident Reporting: Community Awareness & Action

Reporting crime and suspicious activity is a cornerstone of community safety, but people’s confidence in the system varies.

  • Awareness: the majority (85%) know how to report a crime, while 15% do not

  • Experience: 69% have reported a crime or concern before. Others held back because they didn’t know how (8%), didn’t believe it would help (8%), or never felt the need (15%)

  • Confidence in response: only 31% feel confident local authorities respond effectively, while a significant 62% are not confident, and 8% are unsure

💡 Insight: While most people know how to report, and many already have, low trust in authority response is a major barrier. Closing this gap through transparency, feedback, and visible action could increase both confidence and reporting rates, strengthening community safety.
