Ask for Angela is a nationally recognised safeguarding initiative that helps people access discreet support when they feel vulnerable or unsafe in public spaces.
In participating venues, asking for 'Angela' acts as a shorthand phrase to ask for help without having to explain a situation. Trained staff will then recognise this as a request for assistance and respond appropriately. To ensure the scheme is delivered effectively, Ask for Angela provides venues and organisations with resources, guidance and training focused on vulnerability management and awareness.
What originally began as a hospitality-based initiative has grown into a widely recognised safeguarding scheme operating across a range of settings, including taxis, shopping centres, leisure centres, schools, fire stations and student accommodation. The scheme has also expanded internationally, with successful implementation in countries including Australia, Cyprus and the Netherlands.
Partnership is at the heart of this growth. They work closely with local authorities, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), venues and organisations across the UK and beyond to help create more safer socialising environments where people can feel confident that support is available when they need it most.
