Fearless and Charlie’s Promise launch knife crime awareness campaign
Fearless, the youth service of the independent charity Crimestoppers, has launched its biggest-ever knife crime awareness campaign in partnership with Charlie’s Promise.
A new film tells the story of Charlie Cosser, who was 17 when he was fatally stabbed in 2023. Through the voices of his parents, Martin and Tara, and some of his closest friends, it highlights the devastating impact of knife crime and how sharing information before violence escalates could help save lives.
The campaign is supported by national YouGov research commissioned by Crimestoppers and Fearless, which has found:
Only 31% of 16 to 25-year-olds surveyed said they would be very likely to share information with police if they knew someone was carrying a knife and believed it could lead to serious injury or death. When offered an anonymous way to share the information, this increased to 51%.
The research also found that:
23% of young people said uncertainty about whether their information was significant enough might stop them speaking to police, while 16% said not knowing how to share information could prevent them doing so.
Fearless gives young people aged 11 to 25 a way to pass on information about crime completely anonymously. It is independent of the police and does not ask for names or contact details.
Through our partnership with Crimestoppers, imabi supports Fearless by providing access to its anonymous reporting route through Travel Guardian, which is completely free to download and use. We also help councils and community safety teams make trusted safety information and local support easier to find.
