Do you think crime has increased in your local area over the past year?

More than two-thirds of respondents (69%) believe crime has increased in their local area over the past year, while 31% do not. This indicates that perceptions of rising crime outweigh opposing views by more than two to one.

In terms of location, responses were spread across the UK: South East England (27%) represented the largest share, followed by London (19%), East of England (12%), North West England (12%), Wales (8%), with 23% selecting other areas.

💡 Insight:

The results highlight a strong perception of increasing crime across diverse regions, not confined to one specific part of the UK. With respondents spanning London, the South East, and other regions, the concern appears geographically widespread. Perception of rising crime can significantly influence feelings of safety, trust in local systems, and community wellbeing, regardless of official statistics, reinforcing the importance of visible prevention, communication, and local action.
