Global Celebrity Call to Tackle Gender-Based Violence
A new global call to action has been launched by a coalition of public figures highlighting the scale of gender-based violence, with campaigners warning that one in three women worldwide will experience violence during their lifetime.
The initiative, supported by actors including Emma Thompson and reported by The Independent, urges governments, organisations and communities to accelerate action to prevent violence against women and girls.
While global campaigns play a powerful role in raising awareness, the scale of the issue also highlights the need for practical tools that help people report harm, access support and strengthen prevention locally.
Why It Matters
The Community Safety Context
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) remains one of the most pervasive human rights challenges globally. It affects women in homes, workplaces, public spaces and increasingly across digital environments.
Across communities this includes:
Domestic abuse and coercive control
Harassment and assault in public spaces
Workplace abuse and exploitation
Online harassment and stalking
Safety risks while travelling or commuting
Many incidents remain underreported, often due to fear, stigma or uncertainty about where to seek help. Without accessible reporting and trusted support routes, patterns of harm can remain hidden.
imabi’s View
At imabi, we welcome global awareness efforts that shine a light on gender-based violence but awareness must translate into safe, practical, accessible safeguarding infrastructure.
A key barrier for many victims, particularly those experiencing domestic abuse or coercive control, is the fear of being monitored or tracked through digital tools.
That is why the free Travel Guardian app is designed differently from many location-based apps.
Travel Guardian does not track users in the background. Instead, individuals remain fully in control of their safety:
Users choose who they share their location with
They decide when to start sharing
They control how long that sharing lasts
This approach ensures that location sharing is temporary, consensual and user-led, helping to prevent situations where technology can be misused by perpetrators to monitor or control victims.
By putting control firmly in the hands of the individual, Travel Guardian provides a safer way to share journeys, raise concerns and access support, without creating new risks.
imabi’s platform helps communities, organisations and individuals strengthen safeguarding through accessible reporting, real-time alerts and coordinated action.
Through the imabi ecosystem we support:
🔵 Individuals to discreetly report incidents, share journeys and access trusted support through Travel Guardian
🟠 Communities and local authorities to issue safety alerts, share guidance and identify emerging risks through imabi Connect
🟣 Education and workplace environments to strengthen safeguarding reporting and wellbeing support through imabi Inspire and imabi Pro
