How imabi Can Help Universities With Supporting Students

Do your students feel protected on campus?

Or do they walk to and from lectures feeling nervous, vulnerable and concerned for their personal safety?

Supporting students is the ultimate priority for every university senior leadership team. We understand that, which is why we’re here to help.

Discover our Inspire platform, and learn more about how it can help you with supporting students at your university:

Supporting Students Through Stress

In the eventful landscape of university life, students can often experience periods of feeling stressed.

There are many different reasons as to why this is, from their academic studies and exams, to managing their money and finances. University is often the first time students have lived away from their family and friends, which can be scary.

Stress is a natural feeling, designed to help people cope in high-pressure situations. However, it’s important to manage stress, ensuring that it doesn't lead to health problems or affect academic performance.

Recognising this, we’ve created our safeguarding and wellness platform to be a valuable ally to universities in supporting their students’ wellbeing.

Through its comprehensive guides and dedicated support lines, imabi Inspire extends a helping hand to those who need it when navigating the challenges of academic life. The app is also tailored to provide practical advice on protecting students’ mental health and tips on how best to manage a heavy workload.

Furthermore, the platform seamlessly integrates with any preexisting university initiatives, enabling your institution to signpost to additional support services.

Student Safety When Walking Home In The Dark

For their own safety, students should be encouraged to take precautions when walking at night.

1. Plan Route

We recommend that students plan set routes around campus and their new city to avoid wandering aimlessly, as this can make them appear more vulnerable.

2. Make Others Aware Of Route

Students should also let friends know their plans in advance, so that someone will be aware of their expected location should any issues arise.

3. Share Location With Trusted Contacts

Within the app, users can share their real-time location with selected trusted contacts, reassuring both themselves and their loved ones through visibility of their whereabouts.

More than just a simple tracking tool, this geolocation feature can additionally be employed to issue alerts for any disturbances that may be present on a student’s route home. These could include protests outside a nearby tube station, delays to the rail network or planned transport strike action.

Tackling Discrimination At University

Discrimination often targets protected characteristics, such as race, sexuality, or gender. It shouldn’t be tolerated in any form, which is why universities have a responsibility to ensure access to the right support and resources to report this kind of behaviour.

Whilst you hope that your students aren’t faced with discrimination on campus, this is an unfortunate reality that many will experience.

For this reason, our platform provides a secure place for users to access specific information and resources dedicated to fostering a more inclusive environment for all.

imabi Inspire empowers students to report any issues that they encounter, ensuring their voices are heard and concerns are addressed promptly. These reports can be submitted anonymously, if preferred.

Provide Information On Accessibility For Disabled Students

Adhering to the guidelines of the Equality Act 2010 should be a priority for all university leadership teams, and that’s something we can help with.

Your institution must take a proactive approach to the accessibility of university life for all students, particularly those with disabilities.

imabi Inspire hosts maps and other accessibility-related information, providing disabled users with an oversight of all facilities and services available to them on campus, such as the location of disabled toilets or ramps into elevated buildings.

Equitable access to these facilities and services is essential to creating an inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Providing Support For Students Moving Away From Home

For many students, moving to a new town or city can be an exciting experience. With different places to explore and new things to do, it can give them the chance to be more independent.

However, while some students will thrive from this change, others will find the idea of navigating their new home an insurmountably daunting prospect. The anxiety associated with exploring somewhere unfamiliar, especially when heading out to a bar or a club, is a common worry for students.

Appreciating this, we’ve incorporated contacts and useful information from relevant local organisations into the Inspire platform. Users are provided with support and advice to help them safely navigate the city.
